Passion for Tools and Becoming a DIYer
Why tools? Why do we buy a toolbox
full of small and big machines to take care of applications that we are not
even faced with in weeks or months? There is definitely a psychological reason
behind this need. What do YOU think its reason is?
Hey everyone. This is Eric and it is
good to have you here today. Today I was thinking why we need and use tools.
And when I say tools, I mean all of them in different categories with numerous
purposes. They are everywhere; power tools, hand tools and other
ones like cordless tools, air tools, etc. Maybe this question
seems a little bit stupid at first and you say “Hey, are you crazy? It’s damn
right that we need them in our lives and it’s just because we can’t take care
of a lot of tasks by ourselves.” It is true. There are some heavy-duty
operations and works which are impossible to get them done without the
specific devices. No doubt about it. But why did it happen? Why tools? Why do
we buy a toolbox full of small and big machines to take care of applications
that we are not even faced with in weeks or months? There is definitely a
psychological reason behind this need. What do YOU think its reason is? If you
ask me, I would say that there are some logical answers to these questions.
Most of us have this passion for tools. We might think about future and their
probable usages. Or maybe some of us are just crazy about having a collection
of them. Most of us love to be a tools’ home user or simply a DIYer . It can be
attractive to have a collection of pliers or screwdrivers in different sizes
with many usages. You would certainly find one of them in your great
grandfather’s toolbox which hasn’t even been used yet😊. Well, I have some ideas in my head that can be interesting for
you. So, stay with me for the rest.

Why Tools? Be Your Own
Master
I myself like to have a collection
of different hand tools and power tools in my garage. It is so exciting for
me to make something by myself and having a variety of all the devices that are
necessary to have in a small workshop makes me feel safe. Having some of them
are actually very important for anyone like me who has this passion. For a DIYer,
owning a mini angel grinder, a drill driver, a jigsaw,
different sizes and types of screwdrivers, a combination plier,
a diagonal cutting plier, a long nose plier,
an adjustable wrench, Allen, hex and Torx sets and combinations
spanners can be the best solution for any DIY tasks. You
may need to be careful on choosing their types. For instance, when it comes to
buy a drill, choosing between a cordless drill driver or a power
drill is very important. Usually tools experts suggest getting a cordless
drill in case you want to use it every day. Do not waste your batteries for
once-in-a-while tasks. Buy a power drill instead. I have experienced it. So, if
you are in love with tools, don’t worry about spending your money on buying a
big collection. Most of them and especially hand tools are long-lasting and
even your children can use them after you. As I said, I love making things,
especially when it comes to “making treasure out of trash”! Maybe you
find a piece of useless girder on the street and you take it home. With the
help of your grinder and drill and some other tools, you create a very
beautiful and practical hiking knife for yourself. This can happen for some
other applications like making a small chair, shelves on your living room wall,
a cradle for your baby, a dinner table for your yard, etc.

We are also sometimes attracted by
their colors or appearance without even thinking about their usage. Imagine a
“tools freak” who enters a tools shop and sees the power and hand tools
in different shapes and sizes. If I were someone like him/her, I would buy
things I might have no idea about! I even would buy a demolition hammer because
it is big, powerful, strong and beautiful although it has no use in my life or
the next generations in my family! 😁 But all the
jokes aside, a lot of people have a look to the future and think of all the
probabilities that may come up. Some situations might even become critical and
dangerous and as a result, the threat would force us to go for the expected
tool or a set of them. You may use a set of wrenches this weekend and put it
back inside the box and never ever touch them again. It has definitely happened
to anyone. So! What’s your suggestion in this matter? For construction
workers, carpenters or woodworkers, metal fabricators,
miners, electricians, etc., it is clear what they need to buy and
work with. But imagine yourself as a DIYer or simply a home user who enters a
tools shop to buy hand tools or a power tool like a drill. You would freak out!
The variety is “mind-blowing”. This variety is twice because of the
brands and different models among these brands. And imagine all these
differences and varieties happen for a person who is CRAZY about tools!

Tools are undeniable and inevitable part of our lives. Somehow, most of the aspects of our lives mean nothing without them. Choose them carefully if you are a budget-minded person. Make your choice on the right size, type and usage. On the other hand, you are a big spender and don’t care about money. Buy anything you like; anything that you thing “someday” you may use somewhere. I am collecting some useful and necessary tools for me and making a small place in my house to use it as a workshop for making things. I am a DIY fan and want to make a lot of things in my workshop. The best part of a DIY project is that you feel absolutely great when you see the result of your work at the end. If you want to enjoy that result, choose the best tools and be your own DIY master. The sky is the limit.
